In this workshop, Keith Tompkins will guide participants through the creative and technical process behind his celebrated spiral forms.
Students will learn how to approach turning from a concept-driven perspective, beginning with an idea and working through the design and cutting strategies needed to bring it to life. Keith will demonstrate several approaches to end-grain turning and the techniques used to create flowing spiral structures.
Participants will then apply these ideas at the lathe, creating their own spiral forms while receiving individual guidance throughout the session.
Workshop experience includes
-
Approaching turning through concept and design
-
Planning and executing spiral structures
-
Techniques for end-grain turning
-
Understanding how form and motion interact visually
-
Hands-on coaching from Keith as your piece develops
This session emphasizes both creative thinking and technical execution, helping turners explore new ways of designing and shaping wood on the lathe.
