Spend a full day with internationally recognized woodturner Keith Tompkins, whose work has helped define contemporary approaches to spiral forms and refined finial design. Through two in-depth demonstrations, Keith will share the ideas, techniques, and tool control behind some of his most distinctive work.
In the morning session, Keith will demonstrate how he creates one of his signature spiral forms, explaining the creative progression behind his designs and how “outside-the-box” ideas evolve into new directions in turning. You’ll see how the hook tool is used in end-grain turning and how subtle design decisions influence the final form.
In the afternoon session, Keith will turn to finials, widely considered among the finest in contemporary woodturning. He will demonstrate how he lays out and turns elegant forms, including the process for creating fluted finials, and show how he uses the skew chisel to achieve clean, refined details.
